Trying to find a text to translate that is interesting and full of beautiful imagery and themes can be quite difficult. At first, I had no idea where to begin my research for such a text. I have found many works by different Hispanic authors, however a lot of them have already been translated into English. Since I was a little girl, I always loved reading and writing short stories so this was a perfect motivation for my translation project. One of my lecturers was very kind and helped me find the perfect one. When I read ” Un perrito color té claro” by Jose Zuleta Ortiz I instantly fell in love with the vivid imagery he used and the way his choice of words worked perfectly together. At times, the language was quite challenging for me as a student of Spanish because I am not familiar with the Latin American vocabulary and dialect, however in the end it all came together. In my opinion the story is very universal and I’m sure many readers will be able to relate to it in one way or another. The text contains many common themes that occur in our every day lives, such as relationships, childhood, dreams versus reality, etc. I believe that anyone who loves to read about those type of themes, especially childhood and to see a world through the eyes of a child, will enjoy this text. I have tried my very best to understand and translate this text into English. I believe that this particular short story has not been translated from Spanish to English before so this was quite a challenging experience. I wanted to send the same message to the English speaking readers just as the author did for speakers of the Spanish language. This was both a great learning experience and challenge that I loved to work on. I have learned many things about translation, which made me love to become a translator in the future even more.
